The Activities feature on the Teacher App allows administrators and staff at your center to keep track of your students' activities and emotions throughout the day. Recorded activities are then viewable on a student's profile. By default, parents and guardians can also see these activities; you can change this setting on a recording-by-recording basis.
How to record an activity for one or more students
Navigate to the Dashboard screen. Tap the "Student Roster" tile to reach the Directory screen and then tap the 3-dot menu icon in the upper right corner. An options menu will appear; tap "Record Activity."
The Select Students screen will appear. To find a student, you can scroll through the full directory, search by name using the search bar at the top of the screen, or tap the "Classroom" button to filter the directory by classroom. When you find a student for whom you would like to record an activity, tap the check mark to the right of their name; when selected, the check mark will turn blue. When you are done selecting names, tap the "Next" button on the top right of the screen.
The Select Activity screen will appear. Tap "Activities" or "Feelings" to switch between the two categories. When you find the activity you want to record, tap that option to reach the Record screen. The Record screen will display the students you selected, the date and time of the event, who can view this activity, and additional notes.
To edit the date and time, tap the right-pointing caret on the right side of the screen. A scrolling menu will appear; scroll to your desired date and time, then tap "Done."
By default, recorded activities are also visible to parents and guardians. To make the activity you are recording visible only to the staff at your center, tap the toggle button on the right. When the toggle is blue, the staff only setting is enabled, as shown in the screenshot on the right below.
To add a custom note to this activity, tap "Type here…" to bring up your device's keyboard. Type your note and then tap "done." When you're happy with your activity record, tap "Post" in the upper right corner of the screen. You'll be returned to the Directory screen with a notification that the activity has been recorded.
How to add a photo or video to activities
You can now add a photo or video to activities, either from the Camera Roll or taking a new one at the time the activity is being recorded. After selecting the student(s), there are two icons in the bottom left corner of the Record Activities screen: the left icon is to access the Camera Roll to attach photos or videos you've already taken and the camera icon will let you take a new photo or video to attach. You can attach multiple photos and videos (or a combination of the two) and Playground will take care of arranging them to fit the screen.
You can then view recorded activities on each student's profile.
How to view a student's recorded activities
Navigate to the Directory screen. To find a student, you can scroll through the full directory, search by name using the search bar at the top of the screen, or tap the "Classroom" button to filter the directory by classroom. Tap on the desired student's name to reach their profile. Scroll down to the "Activity" section of their profile to view their activity feed. The feed is sorted in reverse chronological order—newest to oldest—by the date and time of the activity (not when the teacher recorded the activity). If an activity was recorded with staff viewing only enabled, the activity name will say "(staff only)"—e.g. "Eating (staff only)."
From this screen, it's also possible to record an activity for this particular student. Tap the blue plus sign to the right of the feed to open the Record screen. Then follow the steps detailed in the section above, starting at the Select Activity screen.
