Phasing out the Families tab

A guide to where to find and how to use the features that have been relocated from the Families tab.

If your center has been using Playground since before June 8, 2021, you might have seen or used the "Families" tab under "My School" on the Administrator Dashboard. This tab previously contained two primary functions:

  1. The ability to batch invite primary guardians to join your center on Playground

  2. The ability to edit family members

We decided to remove the Families tab in order to simplify the Administrator Dashboard. The above two functions still exist—they've just been relocated. The rest of this guide will detail where to find and how to use these functions.

How to batch invite guardians to join your center on Playground

When you join Playground, our team does the work of setting up your center's basic people information in the Administrator Dashboard for you. We upload your student and staff rosters and associate primary guardians and their emails with their children's profiles. Parents and stepparents are considered primary guardians in Playground's system.

It's important to note that a guardian's email is needed to be able to invite that guardian to join Playground.

When your center is ready to invite parents to activate their Playground accounts, navigate to the Guardians page by selecting the "Guardians" tab under "My School" on the Administrator Dashboard. If your center has student accounts that are not yet associated with an active primary guardian account, you'll see a yellow banner at the top of the page, as illustrated below. Inside the banner, you'll see a blue button that says "Send sign-up link." Click on this button, and Playground will automatically send an account activation link to the emails of primary guardians who have not yet activated an account.

A green notification will pop up to notify you that the emails were successfully sent.

How to edit guardians

To edit a guardian's information, start by navigating to the Guardians page by selecting the "Guardians" tab under "My School" on the Administrator Dashboard. Find the guardian whose information you would like to edit; you can use the search bar to search by their name, or filter by status (signed up, invited, no email) or relationship (mother, cousin, babysitter, etc).

When you locate the guardian's name, click the 3-dot menu at the far right of their row on the table. A dropdown menu will appear with the options to "Edit," "Send sign-up link," or "Delete." Click "Edit."

An Edit Guardian pop-up will appear. Here, you can edit a guardian's name, relationship, email, phone, and family number. Make any necessary changes and then click "Save" to save your changes and exit the pop-up. Note that changing the family number will update the number across all students and guardians in that family; if you would like to switch a guardian between two families, or add a guardian to an additional family, refer to this article (coming soon!).

How to invite a non-primary guardian to join your center in Playground

Navigate to the Guardians page by selecting the "Guardians" tab under "My School" on the Administrator Dashboard. Find the guardian you to whom you would like to send an invitation; you can use the search bar to search by their name, or filter by status (signed up, invited, no email) or relationship (mother, cousin, babysitter, etc).
