Playground's integration with Kisi provides a way for your families and employees to unlock your Kisi door locks via their Playground apps. This article contains all of the information you will need to set up and maintain your integration.
The entire process has 3 steps:
Purchasing hardware from Kisi
Installing the hardware and connecting the hardware to your wifi
Integrating your hardware with Playground
Purchasing hardware from Kisi
You will only need to buy one piece of hardware and one software license from Kisi.
Line Item | Price | Quantity |
Kisi Controller Pro 2 | $1,099 one time charge | 1 (works for up to 4 doors per location) |
Door License | $299/yr per door | 1 per connected door |
🚨 You do not need to purchase Kisi's Door Reader or pay a Kisi Onboarding Fee. If you want to make sure you are purchasing the correct hardware, feel free to double check your Kisi quote looks correct with the Playground team beforehand.
Installation
Hardware installation is handled entirely by the provider. Kisi does not do the installation either but works with a network of installers and often may be able to provide referrals.
Otherwise, the provider is responsible to hire and coordinate the installation on their own. Playground is not involved during the installation process.
🚨 The installation price varies based on location, number of doors, existing wiring, and other factors. Before you make your final purchase from Kisi, it's recommended to ask them for referrals to installation companies, so you can get a complete quote with installation.
Integration with Playground
Once the Kisi Controller Pro 2 is installed and the doors are connected, you should be able to open your doors with the Kisi app for iOS or Android.
💡 When the integration with Playground is complete, you won't need to use the Kisi mobile app as all locking/unlocking will be done from the Playground app
Once you are able to open your doors remotely, add Playground as a user on your Kisi account to begin using Playground to open the doors.
On your Kisi dashboard in your browser or mobile app, navigate to Users, then click Add Users
Add Playground Admin ([email protected]) as a user.
When prompted for access type, select Organization then Organization Administrator to give full permissions for the Playground integration.
Without this step Playground will not have access to connect your Kisi account to Playground.
Send an email to [email protected] to notify Playground when the email is added.
Playground will set up the integration configuration and notify you when complete. This process usually takes 24 hours to show up.
Once complete, families and staff will be able to check in / out on Playground and unlock the connected door.
📝 There is no need for any other external reader, hardware, or app besides Playground for attendance & door unlocking.
Opening Doors Remotely
Playground allows you to open any of your Kisi-connected doors from anywhere using your Playground mobile app.
To open your doors with Playground:
In your mobile app home screen, open your menu by tapping the ☰ icon in the top left and select Door Access.
You will see a list of all of your doors – just tap a row for a door to unlock it.
When a door is unlocked, the corresponding door row in Playground will turn blue, the row will update with Unlocked status, and the icon will unlock for the duration of time the door is unlocked (typically 5 seconds).
The door will automatically lock and the row will become purple again with a Locked status and a locked icon.
Check-in Kiosk For Families and Staff
Playground's integration with Kisi allows you to set up a kiosk tablet or mobile device for families that will automatically unlock the door for them after they check their kid(s) in / out via PIN code. This also works for staff clocking in / out for the day - no other configuration is needed
To make Kiosk mode unlock the door when checking a student/staff member in or out:
On an admin or staff mobile device, tap Kiosk on your home screen.
Tap Lock to initiate Kiosk mode.
Tap the Tap to select a door connection for this kiosk button.
This step connects the tablet to a specific door in your center and is critical for ensuring the correct door unlocks once someone enters their PIN.
Select which door you would like to unlock when students and staff are checked in or out.
You should see "
<Door name>
connected to kiosk session" in blue. This indicates the door is connected to the device and will unlock upon check in or out.
Enter your center PIN to enter Kiosk mode. You'll get confirmation the device is locked in Kiosk mode.
To exit Kiosk mode, tap Unlock in the top right corner and enter your center PIN.
If you complete all of these steps, check ins and outs for staff and students will open the door once the check in or out is complete. An example of a successful device to door connection is below.
