Managing Feed Posts as an Enterprise User

Enterprise accounts manage Feed posts from one central settings area, helping keep things aligned across locations.

When you’re using Playground as an Enterprise account, Feed posts are managed differently than in a single-site setup. Enterprise Settings allow you to manage both custom and default post types across multiple locations. This article walks through how those post types work at the enterprise level and what to expect when managing them across your organization.

Managing Default Feed Post Types

Default Feed posts, like Potty, Napping, Eating, and other built in post types, can also be managed from Enterprise Settings.

When you adjust default posts at the enterprise level, you’re setting the standard across all of your locations. That said, individual sites still have control inside their own Feed settings. If a default post type shows as active at a specific location after being turned off at the enterprise level, it usually means that site turned it back on locally.

So think of Enterprise Settings as setting the starting point, while individual centers still have some flexibility to manage their own Feed if needed.

Managing Custom Feed Posts in an Enterprise Account

Custom Feed posts can technically be created at the site level, but this can cause issues if you need the same post type at more than one location. If a second site tries to create a custom post with the same name, the system will block it because it recognizes it as a duplicate. To avoid this, it’s best to create all custom Feed posts in Enterprise Settings. From there, you can assign each post type to the specific sites that should use it, ensuring consistency across your organization and preventing duplication errors.

How to Create a Custom Feed Post in the enterprise dashboard

Follow the steps below to create a new custom post type:

  1. Go to Settings from the Enterprise dashboard.

  2. Select the Feed tab.

  3. Click Add custom post type.

  4. Enter the post name and choose an icon. This label is what staff and parents will see when the post is used.

  5. In the Settings section, choose the options you want for this post type, such as:

    • Whether it includes text or media

    • Whether it includes photo and video uploads. Photos and videos must be 30 MB or smaller, and videos must be 90 seconds or less.

    • Whether it requires admin approval

    • Whether it includes start or end times

    • Whether it needs a parent signature

    • And any additional visibility or usage rules

  6. Scroll to the bottom to assign the post to your locations. You can:

    • Turn on Assign to all sites, or

    • Use the Select sites dropdown to assign the post to specific locations one by one

  7. Click Save to create the post.

If You See a “Custom post template already exists” Message

If you try to create a custom Feed post at a specific location and see a message that says “Custom post template with this identifier already exists in this organization,” it means the post type has already been created at the Enterprise level. Because custom posts must be unique across your whole organization, the system will block duplicate post names at individual sites.

To resolve this:

  1. Return to the Enterprise dashboard.

  2. Go to Settings, then select the Feed tab.

  3. Find the existing custom post that matches the name you were trying to create.

  4. Open the post and scroll to the assignment section.

  5. Make sure the location you’re working in is selected, or turn on Assign to all sites if you want it available everywhere.

  6. Save your changes.

Once the post is assigned to the correct site, it will appear in that school’s Feed automatically, and staff will be able to use it without creating a duplicate.

Editing Shared Custom Posts

If a custom Feed post is assigned to more than one site, any edits you make to that post will apply to all locations that use it. When you open a shared post type, you’ll see a notice at the bottom of the page letting you know how many location are using that template.

This means:

• Updating the name, icon, or settings will update the post everywhere it is assigned

• Visibility rules and post options will change for all sites using the post type

• If you need different versions of a post, you’ll need to create separate custom posts in Enterprise Settings and assign them individually or create the custom post specifically at the individual location level.

Keep this in mind when editing shared post types to avoid unintentionally updating posts for multiple locations.
