Why do I need to provide my Social Security Number?

Playground's payment processor, Stripe, helps us disburse funds to you. To comply with federal regulations, any organization that sends funds to individuals or businesses must collect and verify information about those people through "Know Your Customer" (KYC) checks. These additional steps are taken to confirm the identity of the listed person and help prevent the misuse of the Playground billing platform.

For these checks, Stripe needs to collect specific details to confirm your identity. Initially, Stripe attempts to verify you using the minimum requested information: your legal name, date of birth (DOB), and the last 4 digits of your Social Security Number (SSN).

This verification is a standard procedure to ensure the safety of you, your families, and all financial partners involved, and must be completed in order to continue processing money through the Playground billing platform, regardless of whether your business is a non-profit or not. If we cannot successfully complete the verification, payout deposits to your account will be on hold until verification is achieved.

Additional information about Stripe's business rep/owner tax ID requirements can be found here.

Stripe's Privacy Policy explains how and for what purposes they collect, use, retain, disclose, and safeguard any personal data provided.
