Workers Compensation
Playground partners with NEXT Insurance to offer an integrated pay-as-you-go workers' compensation plan.
💡 Workers’ compensation quotes are provided directly by NEXT Insurance. Playground does not generate or issue workers’ compensation quotes.
What is workers' compensation?
Workers’ compensation insurance helps protect both employers and employees. It provides wage replacement and medical benefits if an employee is injured while doing their job. Payroll and workers’ compensation are closely connected. In most states, employers are required to carry workers’ compensation insurance as soon as they hire their first employee. Premiums are typically calculated using payroll information, which means accurate payroll reporting plays an important role in maintaining proper coverage.
💡 Monopolistic states require employers to obtain workers’ compensation insurance through a state-run program instead of a private carrier. Because private coverage is not allowed, this integration is not supported in North Dakota, Ohio, Washington, or Wyoming.
Pay-as-you-go Workers' Compensation
The NEXT Insurance integration provides pay-as-you-go workers' compensation policies. Pay-as-you-go workers’ compensation calculates premiums using actual payroll each pay run instead of estimates. This reduces the need for year-end workers' compensation audits and the risk of audit surprises.
Transferring Existing NEXT Insurance Coverage
If you have an existing policy with NEXT Insurance, you can easily integrate your existing policy with Playground. Simply email [email protected] with your policy number.
Health Insurance
Playground partners with SimplyInsured to provide employers the ability to compare and purchase employee medical, dental, and vision insurance. SimplyInsured offers thousands of plans from a wide variety of insurance providers, including United Healthcare, Humana, BlueCross BlueShield, Kaiser Permanente and more. You are able to choose from the best medical, dental, and vision plans in your area.
The SimplyInsured flow provides a free instant quote. You can click the Enroll in Health Insurance button on the righthand side of your payroll dashboard to get started and see your quote.
💡 SimplyInsured does not currently support insurance plans originating from Wyoming, Vermont, or Washington DC.
How it Works
After a SimplyInsured plan is selected and offered to employees, Playground automatically sets up the correct employee deductions and employer contributions under the Deductions tab. This keeps deductions accurate and significantly reduces the administrative work typically required to manage health insurance.
401k (Coming Soon!)
Playground now partners with Vestwell to offer retirement products. The integrations is expected to be available as of April 2026.
💡 This integration is currently available to clients with an Accrue401k plan. Accrue401k was recently acquired by Vestwell, and the integration will be available to new clients beginning in April 2026.
Enroll in Benefits
From your Admin Dashboard, navigate to the payroll tab.
Go to the Dashboard tab.
From the right side of your Payroll Dashboard, under Benefits, click Enroll in Workers' Comp, Enroll in 401k, or Enroll in Health Insurance.
The enrollment module for the selected benefit will open. Follow the steps in the module to enroll.
