Adding parents, guardians, and emergency contacts of students as administrators

When you want to add a new parent or guardian to Playground, it's important to make sure they're associated with the correct students in your roster. The following guide walks through how to add a parent when their child is also being added as a new student, and how to add a parent to an existing student's profile.

If you wish to solely manage guardians and turn off this ability for families, toggle the setting off in the Administrator Dashboard.


How to add a new parent or guardian with a new student

  1. From the web Administrator Dashboard navigate to the Students tab under My School.

  2. Click on Add students to open a dropdown menu.

  3. Click Add single student option.

    1. To add multiple students and guardians at once, refer to this article.

  4. The Add Student pop-up will appear where you'll add the child's information.

    1. The new student's name and classroom are required. If you would like to add additional information to the new student's profile at this time, click Additional information.

  5. Then, to add a new guardian to the new student, uncheck the box next to This student's family already exists.

    1. New fields for guardian information will appear; the guardian's name, relationship, and email are required.

  6. When ready, click Finish to save and exit the pop-up.


How to add a new parent or guardian to an existing student

Families, once they have activated their account, are also capable of adding an additional guardian to their child's profile. We encourage you to share this how-to article with your families — having families add, edit, and manage their children's guardians will help save your time!

If you would like to add a new guardian to an existing student yourself:

  1. From the web Admin Dashboard, navigate to Students under My School.

  2. Navigate to the profile of the student for whom you would like to add a new guardian by clicking on the student's name.

    1. You can filter your student list by class using the drop-down menu on the upper right of the table.

  3. Click on the Guardians tab.

  4. Click Add Guardians.

  5. Add the guardian's information.

  6. When ready, click Save.

  7. To invite a guardian, a pop-up will appear to ask whether you would like to send a sign-up email to the newly added guardian's email.

    1. Click Send sign-up email—remember, a guardian cannot being using the Family App without first activating their Playground account via a sign-up email.

  8. You'll be returned to the Guardians page of the student's profile with the new guardian now in the table.


How to switch a guardian from one family to another

If you need to switch a guardian from one family in your center to another, reach out to [email protected] — we'll take care of the switch for you.

Remember that editing a family number from the "Edit Guardian" pop-up editor will update the number across all the guardian and student profiles associated with that family, not switch a guardian from one family to another.
